The steering in my boat has become so tough that it has become a workout to turn... I had a gut feeling that it was the power steering pump so I swaped it out tonight. To my disappointment, nothing changed.
So now I want to go about it the right way instead of just throwing parts at it. I believe the steering cable was changed just before I purchased the boat about 5 years ago. But the steering has always been tough, but not as bad as it is now.
What is my next step? Do I need to dissassemble the power steering cylinder? If so, am I looking for anything in particular? Can the cylinder go bad, does it just need to be cleaned up or rebuilt? I believe the power steering oil cooler is clear, but I will verify tomorrow.
I am mechanically inclined, but not at all familiar with this power steering system and in need of assisstance.
