At the end of last summer, some jerk i know thought he knew what we was doing, and ran my motor without rabbit ears. So recently, I just replaced the impeller that he burned up. After resealing everything, I tried to start my motor, the motor kicked over a few times but then stopped, never actually turning over. Then I replaced the ignition switch because the old one was smoking. Now with the new switch, the engine tried to kick over twice, but then completely stopped. I have power to the ignition, but no power to the celenoid and starter. Im starting to thing maybe I have a fried wire somewhere. If anyone has any clue Id really appreciate the help. Thanks- Mike

It popped the fuse twice, but now the fuse has not been popped.

also maybe you pinched those wires that go to your lower end on that model. that may be why your ignition was smoking in the first place

Re: No power to my '72 100hp Johnson motor

thanks alot for your help. the problem was a pinched wire in the lower end. now that i have fixed that and power has returned... there is no power after the selenoid. i believe the pinched wire may have fried my elctrical shift switch. i have been looking for this part with no luck... but on another forum i found out that i could replace this part with a 3 way light toggle switch that would be mounted on the dash for running lights. before i try and replace this with this other switch, i wanted to make sure it would be okay and not hurt my motor. does anybody know if this is possible or is i should hold out and hope to find the part i need?!
