My 83 150hp Mercury outboard 2-stroke is about to find its self under water, I have replaced the stator, new plugs, set timing (Which did make it idle alot smoother) I rebuilt the carbs with new gaskets and needle valves, cleaned tank addeds fresh fuel and oil 50:1, compression is around 100 and all are within 5 of that. The problem is that at home hooked to the muffs it runs fine sounds good but when it gets in the water and i give it gas it falls on its face tonight it did ok a couple times when i had it in reverse but it went back to falling on its face any advice would be grate i want this boat on the water soon. Yall have been alot of help thank you

Re: No Power Under Load

Tuning an engine on muffs is a lost cause. You need to adjust the carbs in the water. Idle speed must also be set after the idle mixture is properly set. Make sure you've synchronized iginition timing and carbs. On muffs there is no back pressure. Slam the throttle and of course it falls on its face. Since there is no load on muffs an engine running on half its cylinders will seem to rev freely.

Re: No Power Under Load

Have you checked the check valves on the bleed hoses? That will make one fall on it's rear end.
