Hey y’all. I’m new and was wondering if y’all could help me. I have a 2004 Mercury ELPTO 40 3cyl 2 stroke.

it started about three weeks ago when I took my boat out from the landing it ran fine got up on plane to the sandbar. A few hours later when I was going to leave out of nowhere I had no power underload. I was pretty much going at idle speed. When I tried to go wide open throttle and forward my alarm went off as in if it was overheating. But it was pissing fine. ( brand new water pump, impeller, and thermostat ). I found out that one of my coil packs was bad so I change that . Two of the three carbs are new this year and the other one is rebuilt earlier this year as well. I was wondering if y’all had any ideas on what could be the problem.

once again it runs fine and idle, but under load forward or reverse I have nothing but idle speed.

thank you for any advice. I’m stumped

Ran ok until you left a sand bar and then got an overheat alarm. I would check compression

My compression is good. Between 148 and 150 on all three... Could it be my voltage regulator?
