hi guys, I have a 1983 200 and have no power upon accelaration.Motor starts fine and when I go to accel it bogs down.I had 2 bad coils and changed them, rebuilt the 2 fuel pumps, I rebuilt the carbs this summer and was running better than ever I brought the boat home from RI and set out to go black fishing and the motor started acting up. could the power packs break down at a higher rpm? Before I take the carbs off could I check the power packs with a ohlm meter (the book calls out a neon tester)also the bock calls out to use a cd volt meter on the negetive scale to test the voltage can I use a digital style meter to do this test?Any help at this time would be helpful. Thanks Mike p.s. I susspect the carbs might need to be to be cleaned out and I used a ethanol friendly rebuild kit and maybe they got clogged up or something:mad:

mike before you go tearing anything down do the basic checks, compression, equal with in 10% of each other. Spark. check for bad spark plug wires. i suspect dirty high speed jets, or weak fuel pump. if the engine has never been decarbed, needs to be done after running right.

Re: no power upon accelaration

I'd check the fuel supply carefully, as it costs nothing and you probably should do it anyway. When you hammer down you are asking for lots of fuel that you don't ask for at idle. A clogged fuel filter can do that. This doesn't sound like it, but insure your tank is vented.

Also check the bulb. If collapsed it's delivery problems at the tank (on the tank side of the bulb). If it's not, then squeeze it when you accedlerate. If it runs when you squeeze it, you have a bad diaphragm in your fuel pump or your engine fuel filter is clogged or something is blocking the line.

Then go and check the other stuff.

A good decarb never hurts.

If the fuel is old (like 6 mos) I'd throw that out too. I had heard about todays gas going bad fast, but saturday I was in the John Deere House, looking at some of their stuff and I saw a tag that said 6 weeks or less to insure good gasoline with today's supply. So that supports other things that I've heard about the stuff going bad before you get it at the station.

Course I know you can keep it longer, but if you are having problems.......

Couldn't believe that an OEM actually came out and said what people have been suspecting.

 good compresion in all cylinder all around 95-100, new bulb, and also squeezed it upon accelaration, rebuilt fuel pumps, good blue spark in all cylinders and still no luck any other suggestions? could the power packs break down at high rpm?

mike58, take an induction timing light with you on the next outing, connect to battery as usual, then put it on each plug wire, and watch the light. the only way to tell what is not firing. go thru each plug wire, and record the results. is all are firing, then look at the carbs.
