No Power

My 1983 150 HP Mercury outboard runs ok at idle but when its in the water and i put it in gear it seems to lack power when i accelarate it just falls on its face if i slowly throttle it up it will catch up slowly some times im sorta hung up on what to do so any info would be great thanks

i have repaced the stater,The spark plugs,Rebuilt the carbs all 3 of them I bought the boat about 3 months ago and the previous owner said it had sit for about a year and a half

You having replaced all of those parts and still no improvement. I would try the hT leads get a didital multimeter and one by one take HT leads off and check the ohms of the leads. IF I remember they should be in thousands of ohms also a compression test on the engine might help diagnose the fault check for a decent spark be careful though as you don't want a whack from the HT leads If all else fails take to the dealer and get him to check it out for you the O/B is over 20 years old if you don't want the expense of another O/B it may be an option to get the engien overhalled have the engine rebored and have most of the internals check or replaced this will also improve the power of the engine as the engine will have a higher CC hope this helps
