I have a 1978 70hp Evinrude. Just bought it and it quit on the third time out. Took it into the shop and they replaced the powerpack. The first time out it ran fine for about 5 miles. I forgot to vent the tank and it started running ruff, sucked the plastic tank in.
Ever since then it dies when you give it gas from a standing start. When it gets warn it won't idle.
The question is the powerpack causing that or did I cause a problem when I forgot to vent the tank?
Before it went to the shop it ran great.

Re: NO POWER

I don't know if running with the fuel tank vent closed would hurt the fuel pump or not. Your manual will have a procedure for testing it (them). The other thing you can do is use a squirt can of premix and give the carbs a shot when you're trying to go from a standing start.

c/6

Hooty
