I have a Mercruiser serial number 0F598365. It was starting hard, so I went to do the timing. It appeared to be off by 4 degrees, so I corrected it. It’s starting easier now, but I’m still not sure if I set the timing properly. I can’t find a purple and white wire to ground to set base timing. There is a white and green, a white and red, a solid purple, and a grey wire coming out of the module on the distributor. There is a solid purple wire that isn’t connected to anything coming from under the shift interrupt switch. I grounded that one since I can’t find a people and white wire. Did I do the timing properly? It was at 12 BTDC, and I adjusted it to 8 BTDC. Photos of wires are attached. CE783519-CF5C-48D5-9670-E313F884D573.jpeg6D9F89D6-485C-42C7-BA52-93E552CC2CE9.jpeg

I'm pretty sure the purple wire is what you ground when you want to set base timing. I think on mine I have a purple wire that has a rubber plug in it.

Well I just checked on mine mine is purple at the white stripe however most of the white stripe has worn off and a lot of the wire just looks plain purple. So maybe that's your case maybe it was purple and white at one point and a lot of the white stuff rubbed off.

There's also a purple wire with a yellow stripe which I think goes to the electric choke portion if you have that.

I'm able to see the wires but not the module
Your motor could have a TB4 or TB5 module. The TB4 is mounted on the exhaust elbow (think that is where yours is), and the TB5 is mounted on the Distributor

Both TB4 and 5 have white/red and white/green
The purple out of the module is turned ON by the key

TB4 is point and shoot, no base timing

The purple with the connector would most likely go the the choke
