Re: no reverse or neutral after water pump repair

Are you running the motor, or are you trying to shift it without it running? The hydro-electric shift system will always be in forward gear when not running because the hydraulic pump is not turning. It takes hydraulic pressure to shift into neutral or reverse.

Now, if you are saying it won't shift when it is running, that's different. It takes electricity at the wires and hydraulic pressure. No electricity could be wiring or a bad shift switch. No pressure could be no oil in the gearcase. Or dirt, water and crud in the oil.

make sure you hooked the wires up right. If it worked before then it should work now. As FR says you need power to shift it. Check the fuses. I think there is a fuse in the control box for the electric shift models.

Re: no reverse or neutral after water pump repair

Thanx for the info. It was running when I found the problem. I checked the wiring and found a bad spot (possible short) and repaired it. I was trying to make it shift without putting lower unit back on. I guess i will put back together and try again.

Thanks again
