no reverse

I have a 5.7 with a mercruiser alpha 1 sterndrive when I put it in reverse it starts clicking. I have a sterndrive off a 4.3 will it work on it or should I fix the other

Are you sure it just don't need a new lower shift cable or adjustment? I would start there. Do a google search or mabe Chris will come along with a link to his video on the proper way to adjust shift linkage

Like flipbro said, try adjusting the cables from the beginning. The angle slide adjustment is for reverse. If you still have shifting problems you might want to replace the lower cable. It's night and day having a new cable down there.

Probably just an adjustment.You can try the other outdrive because I have spare drive and when I put it on I barely have reverse on the spare and reverse works fine on the primary drive.I have found that when changing to a different drive ,the cable usually needs to be adjusted.Charles

Thanks so much I pulled the shift cable measured the distance says you should have 6 in and I had 7 did that adjustment and it locks in. Going to take it out this weekend
