My original post is below with only a few replies. I have since put a shop tach. on the engine. Set my idle speed RPM's at 650-700. Engine is timed at 8 degrees BTDC. When i give the engine throttle and look at my timing marks with the timing gun it looks like the indicator (light mark) on the fly wheel is all over the place. The engine will not go over 2000 RPM. It will just load up with gas and run really rich. I have disconnected the cigarette lighter, tach, and any other wiring that is not needed or added after. All voltages at idle are to specification. What I need to know is what controls the spark advance to the motor, Coil? Voltage amplifier? hall effect in distributor? Please help?? One more thing, I am getting a surge-like the engine runs better if I turn my blower off while at slow speed 8MPH.

My 1988 21' sea ray seville mc with a 4.3l v6 4bbl rochester carb starts and runs great. Shifts in FWD and Reverse no problem. When i get out on the lake and go WOT the engine dies down (flooding) smell gas behind the boat. If i push my trim tab buttons or move the outdrive up or down or even push in the cigarette lighter i get a power surge and the boat will try to plane, then it will just die down again. I cleaned my fuel tank out (removed from boat) new water fuel seperator. Brand new rochester carburetor. New fuel pump. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. New battery. Timing is 8 degrees BTDC. Compression test 150 to 160 every cylinder. HELP!! going broke.

Ayuh,... The module controls advance,....

The surge you explain, sounds like a Grounding issue somewhere....

Chris was recently mentioning his 4.3 and giving issues with advance... and chasing it for a while and it was a bad ground on the dizzy I think. Search Achris profile for it. He can post a lot so may take a little while. If I find it I'll post a link. ;)
