I just bought a 96 6hp .
It only sparks on 1 wire.
Switching low voltage wires causes the other coil to fire.
Does this mean a power pack fault?
Or are there multiple triggers under the fly wheel?

If you swapped the orange leads going to the ignition coil and the problem followed the lead, then likely the pack is bad.

Thanks for the relpy,

Exactly what I did, and what happens.

Are aftermarket packs to be avoided?

Are they expensive from BRP?

New sounds like the way to go.
The failing lead will spark weakly three or four times on the first pull, but then stops.
Give it overnight and it will repeat the process.
I think it's the CDI overheating for some "can't open it up to find out, stupid sealed $#@*! electronic box" reason.
Oh well, I remember paying many hundreds of dollars in the early eighties for cdis.
Points and condensors can be equally expensive, and far more frustrating, not to mention the maintenance aspect.
Any Canadians have experience shipping parts from I-boats?
I have bought quite a few things from the states and found the USPS a great option.
