No spark: 1997 70hp evinrude

Hi,
I have a 1997 70 hp evinrude (E70TLEUM) I bought it last year. it was on a different boat. So I heard it run. started right up. trying to get it going now and it has no spark. I checked plugs and then I checked coil wires they had some build up on them so I cleaned them up. then I checked wires that go to coils same thing cleaned them up . I still have no spark. now I am stumped. I had control cables off motor don't know if that has anything to do with it. I put them back as they were. I unhooked vro don't know if that's the problem but I plug it in and no difference.Thanks for any help.

Do you have emergency kill lanyard installed and the clip in it?

Did you also get the controls and wiring harness with the motor?

yes it is. checked that more times then I will admit lol

yes I got the whole deal. there is a few wires not hooked up .but they are up near the dash area. they look like gauge wires. that shouldn't make a difference would it. I have the tac hooked up and the alarm.

I took coils off motor and used sandpaper to clean up surface and put them back on still no spark

Try disconnecting the tach wires.

now it has spark. I unplug tac and it had spark. plug it in and still has spark weird. it tries to start. it will try to start with lever all the way up on throttle/shift handle. really flooded. I took out plugs and cranked it over.

don't know if unhooking tac did it the trick or not. tac came with the motor so I don't see why it wouldn't work. I hooked tac back up after I got it running. works perfect. think it needs plugs/ wires. Thanks watermann

Awesome, now you need to get out there and lake test it!
