No spark at plugs

Hello all

I have my manual out and have been trying to diagnose my issue. I just wanted to see if i could receive a little help! I am trying to get my engine to crank but it want So i started doing my troubleshooting. I checked the plugs and did not have any spark. I then took the center wire off of my distributor cap and i did not have any spark there. I checked my coil at the negative terminal with my key in the on position and it says i have plenty of juice. My coil is brand new so i am a little confused as to what to check next thanks for your help

what you need to do first is go to the adults only section and read the #1 sticky.

Its a Chevrolet/454/mid 90's model. but the wiring harness is a mercruiser/87

Do you have continuity through the coil? Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good. Have you had the motor running before? If so I am assuming it ran when you shut it off? Does the rotor turn when you crank the engine? When you say it won't "crank" you are actually saying it won't "fire" Right? When you say you took the center wire off the distributer cap. Are you sure you have a good ground you are testing it to? Are you sure the coil wire has continuity?

How can i check that with a volt meter?

No i have not had the motor running before

That is correct

I held it to the block that should be a good ground correct?

Are you sure the coil wire has continuity?

again how can i check that

Ayuh,... Go to the Adults Only section,+ download the Manual that covers the vintage of your Igntion....
There's a Diagnostic tree that explains the Testing sequence...
