No spark at plugs

I just replaced the coil with flamethrower and now I have no spark at the sparkplugs. The voltage at the coil is 12.4 and drops to 10.2 while cranking. I have spark going into the distributor but no spark to the plugs. The points were replaced last year with an ignitor I ignition so im pretty sure the point arent bad:rolleyes:. Im having problems finding a new cap and rotor but want to make sure the ignitor I is not the issue. Is there a way to test it before replacing parts that arent bad?

Re: No spark at plugs

I should mention that the reason for replacing the coil was the old coil became EXTREMELY HOT to the touch and the boat would stall after running. If I let the boat sit and cool down, it would start right up but not run past 1/4 throttle. It would eventually die again after idling in gear for a few minutes.

I have no idea what you mean by that statement.

Did it work before you changed the coil? Other than the coil getting hot?

And what's the problem finding a cap and rotor? It's a common engine.

There is spark coming out of the coil and going into the distributor. I can tell this because when I pull the coil wire off the distributor and hold it against a ground, there is spark. It worked before changing the coil but I believe the coil was shorting out.........so the coil was replaced. I can find the cap and rotor everywhere on the internet but nobody has one in stock.

bump..........Is there a way to test the Pertronix Ignitor rather than removing it and installing a set of points to see if it fires?

If you have spark coming out of the coil, and it's bright blue and will jump a 1/2" gap, then you don't have problems with points, coils, ignitiors or anything else. You have a bad cap or rotor or both.

UPDATE: The boat is running like a champ! Changed the cap and rotor and had spark but the boat would still stall after running and refuse to start. The distributor was eventually pulled to inspect and found to have a broken advance spring that was floating around the distributor and causing the magnets to get stuck in the advance position. After a rebuild, by CobiaXL, the boat runs like a champ! Test drove on the lake yesterday and I couldnt be happier with the way it performed. THANKS DERRICK!
