Re: No spark, Eska Model 1772B
Warning! don't take the rod cap off this engine unless you are prepared for chaos (66 split needle bearings)
Eska and Tecumseh are owned by Certified Parts who supply parts and printed matter
In my quest to find Tecumseh's fabled "Wonderland" The rabbit hole is deeper than I thought, it all seems to resolve around certified but CPDonline is the big distributer, all the places I called looking for various parts for my D,luxe 7.5 AV 817 came up short...I also found variations of bearings, seals and piston & rod configurations...buy the wrong set of rings and you will have a guaranteed failure. The upper crank bearing is a thing of question as well, mine says Torrington y-148, Torrington was bought out buy Timken who sold it to koyo. Koyo say "we no maky dat bearing no mor" I'm looking into a caged upper needle bearing setup now. The 66 individual rod needle bearing will never be found but spares can be hand made, there also the possibility of using 33-35 straight bearings...now this is mostly on the direct drive versions of the AV engine or engines above T640-07...I guess they were hard on rods so a steel version was used with split needles,
AV 750s had aluminum rods with steel insert but I haven't checked them all.
Tecumseh Parts are a PITA Pats, parts tree, AODP and the "local guy" would eventually not be able to fill my list and they called "me" always missing that one gasket or had listed a NLA bearing on there shopping cart, ALL of them made reference to restocking from CPDonline or Certified. Ok brixnet has lots of NLA parts listed, sears has the rings, seals and retainers, retainer springs but newer style seals are very easy to fit and later model AV 817 used them, but I will point out one thing, if you put the newer seals in the lower end you could be changing them from year to year depending on hours of use and how well your water pump seals and how the tube seals from the pump to the head...the heat will kill them fast, the old style is jsut a big ole thick rubberish seal, the newere style is a typical metal caged seal.
Its hard to tell who's making what with all these guys connected, I will say that for gaskets that he didn't have Pats had the best deal. lol but all to a man refer to Certifiedpartscorp..except the local lawn mower guy....all he knows is CPDonline....cause he get to login and feels special.
I'm getting ready to mail my SSI off to Ed, he has my other one that I had sent with the test block that had not failed so I will have two spares. I'm going to ask him not to repot the SSI that he repairs so I can see exactly whats going on when making the cuts and connections.
My wife's 13 yr old BMW bosh battery went south this morning, 126$ at advanced auto today. Would you think it would have lasted longer than 13 years?
I spend far less on the Bimmer than I do my Eska's
Before you remove the SSI be sure to mark your high speed location and low speed on the speed clutch bracket...I think thats what its called
