NO spark Mercury 80hp

Hi guys I have a 1971 mercury kiekhaefer 80hp- thunderbolt ignition. Serial- 3058690. I do not have the controls for this unit yet, but I was trying to jump it to make sure I could get good spark. My question is, what do I need to do to simulate that the key is in the on position? I was thinking I needed to either unplug a wire or jump one to another, but I am unsure. I tried it with doing nothing and I get no spark. I checked all the wires in the harness and they all are still ok. Any help would be great. thanks

Doing that could be a $400 mistake. If you dont know what you are doing, you could burn up the switch box. I can tell you first hand since I just had to buy one. The best way is to just buy the control box. If you think a wiring diagram will help you, here is one.<br /><br /> 80 HP Thunderbolt .PDF
