NO Spark on 1993 Yami 200 TXRR

Here's the deal, I am a marine tech and I have this engine giving me correct voltage from the high and low speed stator coils, and the correct resistance readings. It is also giving correct voltage and resistance from the pulser coils. I have disconnected the white wire at the cdi and still no spark. The grounds are good on the coils and the cdi.

Does anyone know if this cdi has to have battery voltage to operate?

Any and all ideas will be explored.

I was thinking that outboard motors did not need a battery to run, but I also remember hearing that you could wipe out the electronics if you disconnect the battery while running. Maybe from surging the alternator or something else.

So, you will need the advice from more experienced people on this.

There are for sure battery cdi units and stator operated cdi's

on the 200TXRR model no battery voltage is nessasary to operate the CDI ign system.
that is about the simplest CDI ign system ever designed.
if all the inputs to the CDI unit are correct and there is no CDI output guess what the problem is?
but before you start replacing parts have yo checked all the 2 wire coils for shorts to ground?
are you testing stator output voltages with the system loaded and unloaded?
are you positive the warning alarm is working?
quick check is to remove the stop lanyard and crank the engine.
if the stop lanyard white wire becomes shorted to ground it will not only inhibit spark but,if working, will sound the warning alarm when cranking.
hasnt been a battery CDI system built in a long time.
most the larger yamaha 4 strokes and the HPDI use a battery TCI system.
your 200TXRR uses an altenator driven CDI system.
the high and low speed charge coils provide the ac voltage to charge the capacitors in the CDI and the pulser coils provide the trigger voltages to discharge the capacitors into the primary ign coil circuits(CDI output).

i was wrong about the trigger voltage, its only 2.0 volts on one coil and .5 volts on the other 2. Spec is 2.5v. Everything ohms out good too. Do you think bad triggers?

I would carfully check the pulser coils for shorts to ground as well as resistance.
that TXRR 200 should have 3 trigger coils and a movable timer.
unless someone has installed a later powerhead on an older frame.
in that case I need pictures of both the port and stbd sides and a top view of the flywheel with the covers and the airbox removed.
hard to believe ALL 3 triggers failed at once.

I don't think they all failed but two were bad. Replaced the triggers, runs great now. Sorry for the late update. Water tested on friday.

then your description was off, three pulsers control 6 cylinders.
you should have still had spark on two cylinders.
in anycase glad its working correctly.
I would carefully inspect the 2 failed coils, try to determine why they failed.
