my thread is in the project forum but they said i may have better luck on here.

i just got a 74 srv190 with a 188hp mercruiser drained the oil the first time after it sat for a while and perfectly clear watter drained out followd buy sludgey gross oil. changed it.

alright so i hooked a battery up to it today and the starter turns the engine. doesnt start tho, so i started working on that. no spark coming out of the coil but i had power going into it. so i replaced the coil. then still nothing no spark, replaced all the stuff inside the distributer no spark still. the wire that runs from the distributer to the ground on the coil is in bad shape but wouldent i have spark coming out the top of the coil still. also i changed the oil three times today and it runs out clear now so thats better than milky right. the oil pressure also go's up witch is good? why no spark tho should i trace all those wires.

Pictures: my cameras batterys were dead ill promise i will take a buch tommorow cause i think u guys need to see this thing.

thanks

Re: no spark! why?

1) Is the rotor turning?.....
2) There is a possibility that the shift interrupt switch is stuck...
It is located on the back of the engine on the shift plate, if it is closed, it will ground the points......
The roller should be centered in the detent.......;)

The stuff inside the distributor that you replaced - does that mean you changed the points and condenser? Did you gap them correctly and / or check the dwell?

the wire that runs from the distributer to the ground on the coil is in bad shape but wouldent i have spark coming out the top of the coil still.

That wire is the wire from the points. If that wire is bad, then no, you will not have a spark.
