Re: NO spark , won't start please help

this is not an insult so please don't take it as one, don't jump in the deep end if you can't swim.I am a mechanic and I see this all the time, now that you started the job I am sure you will feel better solving the problem yourself.Go to the home page of this site and find a shop manuel, you seem to have some ability, you got the fiywheel off and recognize the parts you are looking at,my daddy told me somthing that made me the mechanic I am today"if you can take it apart, you can put it together",the secret is to not have any parts left over:rolleyes. So get a book put it in the bathroom and by the time spring comes and its time to hit the water you will know everything there is to know about your motor:cool: ,or do you wanna be a weenie and have some one give you ALL the answers?Give it a shot, really!you won't get stuck, and if you do we will all help you out.

Hello mnydvr I do appreciate the quick reply and I am certainly not taking your reply the wrong way I am just kind of frusterated already with the o.b I want to throw the thing down a freakin cliff already !!!. Anyway I am planning on selling the o.b to a friend for 200 bucks as long as i can get it to run proper. And to be honest I really dont want to buy the book because I do not plan on keeping the o.b for long anyways . Well if anybody could at least help me get it running I would be very thankful.

Well thanks for at least responding . I know the problem I am having is not that hard of a problem to fix with the right experience . I will keep searching around the net for more information , I just don't want to have to buy a repair manuel for a o.b I am not going to keep . Thanks anyways and Happy Holidays to you all.

Working on an outboard motor without having a shop manual for reference is a recipe for disaster, especially when it comes to ignition repairs, link and sync adjustments, etc. 2-strokes are very sensitive to bad tinkering. The advice your got earlier about getting a manual was given to help you avoid blowing the engine before you are able to sell it.

Re: NO spark , won't start please help

what was the origial problem before you took it apart?no spark?at all cylinders?why did you pull the flywheel, did you know there was a stator problem?or a trigger problem, what was it doing, how did you determine it was a problem under the wheel?teher are alot of reasons to pull a flywheel, but there are alot of tests to do before that ,we can't help unless we go bacwards at this point, why did you fuss with the points?willing to help but need to know a WHOLE lot more.

Re: NO spark , won't start please help

Original problem was I was low on commpression 65ft lbs.so I replaced the rings , piston, cleaned up the internals ect. I do have some experience with 2 strokes have rebuilt top end on my dirtbikes a few times . Just the first time having to work on a o.b anyway I ran the motor for a minute and noticed smoke was being relesed through the crank cover so took apart and put better sealer to fix the problem , reassembled tryed to start no spark , then I started messing with the ignition system , points ect no spark . So as far as I know it could be misaligned points , bad condensor ect. I was told the condensor runs 80.00 and I aint willing to put that money into a part that I may not need at all thats why I wanted to know how to test the condensor . Thanks to anyone who wants to help!!!!!

so I got the ignition set right now there is strong spark for both top and bottom plugs. I fired it up and ran for couple seconds then shut off. so im thinking it just needs a carb adjustment now ??
