No spark

I have a 1986 Yamaha 115 and it has left me stranded a couple of times. Both times after i left it set a while it started right up. I thought it might have been flooded but it wouldn't start in my driveway last time and i noticed that i would get spark on one side of the motor but not the other, so i switched the coils from one side to the other and i still got spark on the same side, different coils but same side. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

Re: No spark

Look at the ground wire on that side where you don't have sparks. Try to connect an extra ground wire between both cylinder heads or between that head and the crank case.
It's easy and cheap to test it if there is a bad ground on that side of the engine.

Re: No spark

hello
if cleaning the coil grounds does not work the pulser coils fire the cyl in banks. one coil for cyl1-3 and one for 2-4.. it is possible to have a cdi failure or a pulser coil failure. but carefully test them as they dont fail often. do you have a service manual ?

Yes I have a service manual, two of them, one factory and one after market. Would this be a problem that would come and go, or is this something that is either good or bad? When I have seen this problem I would let the motor set a while and then it would start and run good.
