Hi guys, I am very new to working on outboards. But, this forum has been a wealth of info and has helped me greatly. I just bought 2 old outboards, a '52-'53 5 Hp Johnson TN 28 and a 5.4 Hp Evinrude Zephyr 4404. Even though there are still issues, the Zephyr is the one that starts. But I will get to the Zephyr later. I have no spark in the top cylinder of the Johnson. I have replaced the coils and wires, regaped the points .020, put in new plugs. I do have good spark in the lower cylinder. I started the day with no spark so there is progress. What should I do next? Replace the condensers? The motor did sit for 7 years. Please remember I knew nothing about motors 3 weeks ago, so there may be an obvious fix.

Re: No spark

you have 1 known to be good condenser, swap it to the suspect side and see...clean and reset the no spark point set

Re: No spark

New coil, new condenser, new plug, new wire, where do I go next? Points regapped and look good, still no spark in the top cylinder. I must have made a mistake somewhere.
