new to forum don't know if this is new thread or not.
I have a 25 hp 4 stroke engine that i bought in 2000 which ran well till my state mass switched to 10%ethanol last year. AT full throttle my engine would cut out and the only way i could keep it running was to pump the bulb. I did all the research and replaced all the lines filters new fuel pump added a fuel water
separator even changed the tank. I also rebuilt the carb. on my second tank of gas this year i have the same old problems.
I called Yamaha customer relations in Georgia 866-727-2200 and talked to a tech and he said that i was out of warranty acknowledge there is a problem but its not Yamaha's they blame it on the fuel saying that you don't get 10% ethanol at the pump it actually is much higher and is not regulated since Yamaha does not make the fuel it is not their fault. if i was still under warranty they would give ma a new carb. but once your out of warranty they do not want to here from you.

I mentioned that there is a known defect and that they still sell the engine in mass now how can that be considered good customer service all he said is your out of warranty. if your thinking abour buying a yamaha think againl

Re: no support from yamaha

I know this seems obvious but have you replaced the BULB.

My experience with these carbs is that they run badly at about 1000rpm and run strong once fully on the high speed jet.

This weekend I noticed that the black rubber bulb was not really working properly - it is a cheap fix and I would suggest you replace it. They can fail and not show a lot of visible signs - but internally they don't give the engine the gas it needs. With yours running badly at fully throttle - I would check it out. Even a new aftermarket bulb would be a good test.

There is a valve or something inside the bulb that can fail and not allow enough gas to get to the engine.

Other than that, I think Yamaha is getting away with murder giving only a 3 year warranty, but the new carb is cheaper than the useless extended warranty you could have purchased to go a full 5 years (still not enough).

Hope this helps, sometimes the simple things are not checked first.

I had a 15 HP Mercury two stroke that acted almost like that, but the problem
was in the tank's fuel pick-up. Replaced the tank as a whole and the trouble
was fixed. What my motor would do was not get up to speed and it was suck-
ing air through the fuel pick-up tube which somehow had broken. My motor
was also out of warranty when this happened. I only had a one year warranty on that Merc. I would not be too quick to blame the motor itself,
either.
