Greetings! Because if the information from many of you I was able to fix my overheating problem by rebuilding my water pump and poppet valve. Thank you! However, there are no thermostats. I guess the previous owner removed them to hide the overheating problem. Without the stats the engine so far has not reached a temp above 145 degrees. Can this effect the performance of the engine? Thank you very much.

The only thing that comes to mind is the oil could sludge up quicker if it's not hardly getting hot. Does it run good at that temp?

Running without t-stats can cause piston scuffing/siezing, excess carbon build up in cylinder head and top ring of piston,if it has thermal air valve it will alway run rich at idle and possibly cause fouled plugs or hesitation at take off. They are there for a reason, they can be removed and replaced with a restricter washer but this is mainly a hi-performance mod or top end running.

Wow, thanks for the info. I'll wait for them to come in before running the engine again.
