No warning buzzer

I own a Yamaha pro 40 with factory tillar, trim and tilt. I say factory tillar cuz my model number indicates it is factory ,P40tlhw. Evidently it has never had a warning buzzer or lamps. Even if it did have warning lamps, you couldn't see them, but you would think that it would have a buzzer. If it does have a buzzer it is well hidden and keeps quite. So, I want to mount a buzzer inside the engine cowl or on the transom. I figured I could use the pink and black wire in the remote harness( it is coiled up and layng in the floor) to hook up the buzzer but I can't get electric to them. I pulled out and removed the thermal sensor and jumped the p & B wires, key on, and still no juice. Would by some chance the engine need to be running since the pink wire is coming from the CDI box? I,m confused. I have done a forum search with some help but not what I need...Thanks a million...Ray

Re: No warning buzzer

I believe the pink wire on my boat is for the Tachometer. Does your manual state it is for a buzzer? Also wouldn't an alarm wire have 0 voltage under normal circumstances?

Re: No warning buzzer

I followed the pink wire from the sensor switch to the remote harness and also my manual shows it to be pink, unless my eyes crossed. I have been thinking since you mentioned it and I think maybe the buzzer would have a positive on one side and the other side would be the ground which is broken at the thermal switch. When the switch closes from high temperature it would complete the ground. I need to know for sure what color the wire is from the thermal switch to the buzzer.

On my C40TLRX the pink wire goes to the temp switch and when the switch closes from high temp it grounds the pink wire through the black wire that is attached to the block.
See if this pic shows enough detail.

99YAM, You have the same manual as I do. Since you have a remote, do you know what color the wire is that goes from the switch to your buzzer(horn)?

According to the manual the signals are sent to the CDI and then the CDI sends a signal to the buzzer , but I do not see it in the manual so I do not know what color wire. I never had to chase it down before.

Re: No warning buzzer

Thanks you 99YAm, I think I got it. I put a jumper wire at the switch to close the ground. Put the red lead from my voltmeter on the accessory port of the ignition and the black clip to the pink wire and got 12 volts on the meter, I removed the jumper and lost the 12 volts. Now all I have to do is run to town and buy a buzzer Thanks a bunch for your trouble....Ray

You need to rethink what you are doing! The pink wire comes from the CDI, and I do not think it has 12vdc on it normally,I may be wrong.
but I think the temp switch grounds the signal from the CDI (What ever that signal is)and then the CDI goes into the safe mode retarding the timing and limits the RPM and then sends a different signal to the buzzer. You need to confirm voltages before tapping into a signal coming out of CDI.
From what I can remember reading in the past , the CDI out put to the buzzer comes from a thyristor and has some leakage current or voltage that passes through even when off causing a faint alarm sound even when not in alarm state unless you use the Yamaha buzzer.
You may need to keep on searching for the wiring diagram for the Buzzer for your motor

Re: No warning buzzer

I will rethink. I just got back from the Yamaha dealership to buy a buzzer but the salesman was gone for the day. Maybe I will just hope the engine shuts down if something goes wrong.

If you do not have a owners manual you should be able to download one from the yamaha site. It sould tell you how it reacts to a high temp. I have no idea if your tiler drive motor has the safe mode from high temp

Re: No warning buzzer

The manual says it has shutdown and buzzer alarm. Since it is a tillar, the dealer who rigged this boat should have installed a warning horn somewhere. After talking to him today, I know why he didn't. He was dumber than an oak stump. Any way, I found the remote wiring harness diagram in my Seloc manual and it showed clearly to hook the yellow to one side of the horn and the pink to the other which I did and it works perfect. Once again thanks a million. Now I can concentrate on catching more and bigger bass.
