Hey guys we just got a 2006 tritoon pontoon with a Honda bf225 hoarse motor. Hooked it up to earmuffs to flush it out......but theres no water exhaust anywhere, when you shut it off warm water seeps out little holes on the lower unit but thats it? Also the water pressure gauge on the console isn't registering. When you put it in gear you hear a clanking noise but it goes away if you throttle it up at all, other than that the engine only has 8hrs on it sould like its running good. It was in a huricane 8 mnths ago, if something hit the prop could it cause this problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated, im thinking water pump but I dont know a lot about outboard engines. I dont want to run it anymore until its fixed if water isn't getting to the engine.

Your muffs probably aren't sealing well enough.
I would change the impeller and flush out the cooling system with compressed air or a water hose with a jet nozzle.

Clanking noise? I doubt it should be making any type of noise at idle so you might want to get that checked out before something expensive happens.

You definatly need to pull that gearcase down and inspect/replace that waterpump. You will be that far into it so just count on replaceing it and keep in mind that this IS a regular maintenance item.Little use is actually more harm than good for that particular component. The telltale can become plugged so make sure a good blast of compressed air is delivered back through that pickup tube and exiting through the telltale before this all put back together.

Some motors have the water intake above the prop and not on the side where you hook the earmuffs. I would take the boat to a ramp and run it in the water.

You don't ever want to put the motor in gear with the prop out of the water.

No sense of everyone else debating your problem, put it in the water and let us know how it did. I don't usually flush my 225 on uffs as the hose connection does a good job. You ask the dealer or mechanics and they all vary between answers. I run mine in 99% saltwater so flushing is not an option. If you run in good fresh water no reason to flush unless it is murky water.
