1994 v4 140hp run in salt water, sat for 5 years. Bad Bad previous owner. tried firing up with the muffs on, all good except no coolant flow, i think. nothing out of pee hole, exhaust holes on side of lower unit, or from prop. not a drop from any of those. replaced impeller, thermostats, pulled heads inspected water jackets. still not a drop of water. ran engine without thermostats, still not a drop. should i suspect a clog in copper tube, seems like it seals with water pump. Is there some seal where the copper tube meets powerhead. suspect leak, clog? Would this require me to remove entire powerhead from pan?thought I should try running motor without lower unit on with water supply connected directly to copper tube--good idea? you guys think that running the engine in a barrel would be better than the muffs?

If your motor is anything like mine that tube you speak of should just pull loose from the powerhead with a light pull, just be certain that you get it back in its seat when you reassemble. If it doesn't come loose with a little effort I wouldn't force it, refer to a manual.

yep, threw the old impeller away. will try pulling copper tube out from lower unit side. is there a seal that can be replaced from there? seems like a tough spot to work in.

thanks hamburger, i reread my own post and even I was confused.. The copper pipe did not come off when lower unit was removed. I suspect that something is wrong with the pipe or where it connects to the powerhead. was wondering if the copper pipe to powerhead connection has a seal and if it can be replaced without lifting entire powerhead.. thanks guys..

Leave the copper pipe alone. Stick a water hose directly on the copper tube and pull the thermostat covers and thermostats out. See if water comes out those holes.

held a running hose up to copper pipe already with thermostats out.. bone dry.. will try cutting the hose and hose clamping the garden hose onto the copper pipe.. good idea?

Yep, I've run motors without lower units like that before.
