No water temp??

Well, I got my motor fired up and after installing a new ESA module the motor cut right out. I may need to adjust the travel on the microswitch so the it just barely engages when I am shifting.

:cold:I had my 2.3 liter running for @ 20 minutes and I noticed the temp gauge did not move at all. It stayed at 100 the lowest reading on the gauge. The outdoor temp was only 50 degrees and the water I am running through the muffs is also @ 50 degrees. I thought the motor temp should be @ 160 since I just installed a new thermostat in the motor or I am thinking my temp sending unit is bad.

I disconnected the temp sensor lead and grounded it to the block and the gauge topped right out. Time for a replacement or is there a way to clean up the sensor and get it working again??

I also noticed the oil pressure was @ 65-70 psi which also seemed a little high to me. The oil was fresh from a head gasket job preformed last year by the previous owner and probably has less than 20 hours. The oil looks brand new to me.

Should I be worried??

Re: No water temp??

Quick update.

I bought another water temp sending unit and installed it. Again I let the motor idle for @ 20 minutes with 50 degree water running through the LU and the temp gauge still did not budge. Am I missing something, could I have installed the new thermostat incorrectly?

With the thermostat controlling the motor temperature it would seen like it is stuck open and not allowing the cooling water to heat up to operating temperature.

Has this situation happened to anyone else??

Quick test to check sending unit. Put into a bowl of hot water with a thermometer tha reads the current water temp. So that it is over the 100 degree marpk. If that makes the gauge work then check your thermostat. Which can be tested on the stove with hot water and a thermometer. But if it's stuck open you should be able to see that.

Thanks for the information.

I will run those tests and I am also wondering If I accidentally switched two of the cooling hoses on the T-stat housing which may also be affecting the lack of heat build up in the motor. My mistake came when I winterized my motor last fall and pulled the housing off and did not immediately replace the t-stat until this spring and I forgot how it all went back together!!

Don't get old and forgetful!!

Google a search for your motor setup. Might find a pic somewhere that would show the hose routing.

Success!!

Last night after work I switched the two hoses from the t-stat housing and now I have a motor temp!! It is amazing how much better a motor runs when it reaches it's operating temp. Thank you all for your input. This forum is the BEST!!
