No water through tell tale at full throttle

I replaced my lower unit this winter with a used one. Checked the impeller. Looked brand new. Put everything back together properly. Sitting at the dock, motor idles nicely with a pretty good stream of water out of the tell tale.

We didn't have to go to far to fish. 15 seconds or so at full throttle. When I slowed down to a troll, the motor was hissing pretty good. I looked at the tell tale right away and it was barely trickling. Then it started spitting again and seemed to cool off.

Brought it home, took it apart again. Everything looks good to me. I take back out fishing. Same thing. Loses the steady stream from the tell tale by half throttle. I didn't want to push it and over heat it, so I just trolled with no problems.

Could they have the wrong impeller in there? It's really starting to bug me and I don't have the funds to have someone work on it. I don't want to be stranded out on the lake with the kids, so I need to figure this thing out soon

Thanks, Paul

i agree, sounds like the impeller can't keep up with the water flow. i'd look for any kind of blockage while the lower unit is off
