I have a yamaha outdrive that is not getting water to my impeller, I have a new impeller installed and it works great but I can't get water to it. I check every hose and clamp between the transom and the bottom of the motor ,no blockages anywhere please help!!! I can put the hose that feeds the impeller in a bucket of water on board and it drains it very quickly ,I just can't get water to it... oh the motor is a Chevy 4.3 with the yammie outdrive in a 94' ebbtide 182 se

It runs thru the transom and down to the water inlet screens on the outdrive

Re: no water to impeller

I am having the same problem with Yamaha 3.0 outdrive in a 1993 Chapparal. Cant pickup water using muffs and garden hose. Worked fine all last year. havent tried in the lake yet. Installed new impellar at first start up because it had seized up and tore apart and since then cant get it to pickup water. Thanks for any advice.

On muffs first but nothing so then a 55 gallon drum and still nothing I guess I should take it and drop it in the water and see if it needs to be deeper than what I had it.

If you didnt have it deep enough, then your impeller would be fried anyways from running it dry. You'll have to replace the impellar and make sure all the fragments are removed, or you could have a blockage. If you have a blockage, you wont be able to circulate water through the engine and it will overheat.

Re: no water to impeller

Ok so I figured it out, I had a crack in the water inlet tube that goes thru the transom. Looks like someone didn't get all of the water out and it busted so it was breaking suction and not letting the impeller pull the water up the outdrive. I guess its just a trip to the parts house to get a piece of rubber hose, two connectors and a couple of clamps and I should be in good shape. Does anyone have a reason for the hard molded plastic piece that I'm talking about or will the rubber hose work as good?

Are you talking about the fitting that the hose to the pump connects to. It is behind the motor in the transom? On my 3.0 yamaha it is plastic i think. Did you just see the crack or how did you find it? Or did you take it off and found it? Maybe that is what is wrong with mine. I will have to look at it closer. thanks

Re: no water to impeller

I had my out drive off so it made this easier but I plugged the hole the water goes in at and took the hose off that feeds my impeller and put water to it and seen it was leaking out of the piece. And yes it is the plastics piece that goes through the transom it has a small bowl at the bottom of it and I'm thinking that water sat in there over the winter and cracked it. Best of luck to you and tour project

Re: no water to impeller

There is not a impeller in the outdrive the only impeller you have is on the engine right below the alternator
