No Zerk fittings on a 20 hp 4 stroke Yamaha?

Hi! My last 2 outboards (Honda, Tohatsu) have Zerk fittings for the key lube points. My new 20 has no such fittings that I can find. The little manual shows a few lube points, and I'd sure like to force some grease in there, especially the motor tilting and turning assemblies. Does Yamaha put a lifetime lube at these points? Thanks!

Robert, thanks for the tip; I looked for rubber caps, but all I could find were a few 1/8" flush holes that have some white grease inside (I hope the picture loads). Do these holes replace zerk fittings? Seems like a step backwards in the lube department. What grease gun, if any, fits these holes?

Those holes are probably where your grease fittings were. The zerk fittings either screwed in or are pressed in and yours may have fallen or got knocked out. Check if yours are the threaded type, go buy some at Autozone or somewhere and install them. Should be very easy but the zerks are very important to keep water out and grease in those pivot/tilt bearings. Good Luck!

Come to think of it, if your motor is new or still in warranty, I'd take it back to the dealer and let him replace those zerk fittings. Since there's grease in the holes then the fittings must have been there at some point in time. Strange that they'd all be missing like that! Good Luck!

Robert, thanks. The motor is new, fresh out of the box 3 weeks ago. The dealer has other small portable yamahas on display; I'll stop in today for a zerk search.
