Johnson 200 HP J200TXEDR Hi first timer with a question. Bought engine new and have not abused. Propped right, de-carbed yearly, new water pump ect. While running about 4000 rpm heard a new and not good noise. Rattle more than a knock. Shut it down and used kicker to get home. Checked compression, good on 5-115 lbs. only 60lbs on top right viewed from rear. Pulled head, "WOW" top of piston looked like it had been shot blasted. Found 1/2 X 3/4 inch of edge of intake port sleeve or liner missing and pieces in cylinder. Cleaned up and re assembled. Runs OK?? No noise. Should I keep using it until winter or re-build, re-sleeve cylinder ect. Any ideas what caused this? Thanks Ed

Nope. You shouldn't run this until it's been fixed, or you're looking at turning it into an anchor.

Time to rebuild. If you keep using it, though, you'll be able to buy a new engine, instead of rebuilding.

Hi again and thank's, Unable to open your photo. Could someone please explain what would cause this problem and if possible why not to run this engine till the end of season. Perhaps recomend a good mechanic or repair facility in the Detroit, Mi. area. Ed

Another question for an experienced mechanic. Is it possible to work through the intake, behind the reeds and remove the top right, viewed from the rear, connecting rod and then hone cylinder and replace this piston assy. Ed
