1987 OMC 3.0L I/O

Had new bellows installed last month after I noticed some nicks in the top bellows. Questionable as to how those nicks got there but the mechanic said there was no water in the boot that could have contaminated the Gimbal Bearings. I had the bottom exhaust bellows changed at the same time just to be safe.

Started the boat up with the bellows on in the driveway everything worked well. Took the boat out and everything works well but turning to port or starboard, increases a hum. No snaping noises like a bad front wheel drive axle but a hum only under power and turning in the water.
No noise for straight ahead even with diferent throttle.
Tried to listen for this in the driveway again and nothing while turning the outdrive from side to side in gear, only in the water.

Any ideas on what to check?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike did the mechanic change the gimbal bearing when changing the bellows that is where your noise is coming from. You can try and to grease it but if you already have the noise there it is probably to late

Re: Noise after new bellows installed

Noise increases when you turn port or starboard= bad u-joints. Hum or grind all the time=bad gimble bearing.
