Noise from lower unit

Test ran my 85 'Rude 90hp on the muffs again this afternoon for about 10 minutes. It idled pretty good but I still need to set the low speed idle and timing. But while it was idling, I kept hearing a "clanging" noise coming from the exhaust/prop. Is this normal for Evinrudes? I put my ears up close to the block and couldn't hear anything clanging and bangin. It was only when I knelt down next to the lower unit and prop that I could hear it. Standing back away from the motor you could hear it real well.

Normal? heck no!

On the muffs, prop will usually spin even in neutral, any chance it's striking the torque tab maybe?

The prop doesn't spin while it's in neutral. I can shift it into gear and the prop will start to spin (forward or reverse) but when in neutral it doesn't spin. When it's in gear it's not hitting the torque tab.

I did replace the seals on the bearing housing but all I did with that is remove the four bolts, pull the bearing housing out, replaced the seals then slid it back in and re-bolted it. Once I did had that done, I replaced the water pump. But I didn't crack open the lower unit any further than that. I even checked the length of the shift rod and made sure it was at the proper length. It shifts into and out of gear fine, but there's a "clanging" sound coming from the exhaust/prop.

Any chance I messed up something there?:confused:

Also...I pressure tested the lower unit once I replaced the seals. When I drained the old gear oil out it looked fine. I didn't see any metal shavings on the drain plug and there wasn't any sign of water in the oil.

Could this be an exhaust issue and not lower unit? It had a 140 "bubble" exhaust on it when I got the motor but I put the standard flat-back 90hp exhaust back on it during the re-build.
