Hi gang,
I just made the move to a stainless steel prop and have a question. I did not experience any issues with the old aluminum prop. Engine ran fine with no noise and the lower unit grease drained out clean. After installing the stainless prop, I discovered a noise at idle in gear. It sounds like a heavy rattling, but goes away right after I increase the speed. The prop is obviously alot heavier, and this may be normal. The prop shop installed a new hub, and furnished a new thrust washer and retainer washer to put behind the nut. I torqued to 55 lb ft and tighted a litlle more to install the cotter pin. The prop has about the same in and out thrust clearance as the original.

Just checking to be sure I don't damage anything.

1992 60 HP Evinrude, large gear case.
Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks, Pop

Re: Noisy lower unit / Rattle

May be too tight; torque to the specs then back off one flat to install the cotter pin; same logic as on trailer axles.:)
