Does anyone have ideas on how to quiet down the older model (1989) sterndrive. Basically you have a wooden box covering the engine with foam insulation. My insulation rotted years ago and I replaced it with hard foam insulation from a spray can. I think the hard stuff just bounces the sound off, perhaps I should use soft foam eggcrate. Any ideas? Thanks Allen G

Anything. Will help deaden the sound.
Some better than others.
The thicker the better.
The foam in my outboard cowl fell apart in just a few years.
It crumbled and ended up in the carbs and the flywheel. What a MESS.
I replaced it and it promptly fell off.
So I just cleaned up the junk and left it off.
They sell sound deadening at West Marine and on-line.

Ayuh,.... My motorbox is home built, outa plywood, the foam is just stapled in,....

I wanted the closed cell stuff, 'cause it's water resistant, 'n seems to be stronger, longer lived than open cell,...

I just happened to get Lucky, 'n found a mountain of the stuff, 'bout that time,....

my box is glassed - would a spray adhesive work you think? And I've got some leftover 6" thick closed cell seat foam I can cut to 3" that should work.
