noisy outdrive and vibration

I am a new I/O boater. I have been a vehicle mechanic for over 30 years though. I recently picked up a 86 Bayliner Capri Bowrider. I think the boat is a 1950 model. It has the 5.0 badges on the side but the engine was replaced by a 350 Chevy. The outdrive is a Volvo Penta 275. I am looking for the correct manuals for the outdrive and engine. The boat runs like a champ. runs cool and has great oil pressure. I did get a good amount of water in the bilge when it was sitting so I figure the bellows are shot. I also have noisy bearings and a vibration in the steering wheel. I figure the u joints and gimble bearing are gone as well. If I'm in there I am going to do it all. I need help identifying the correct parts and the proper procedure to replace them.

This forum is awesome and the amount of information is overwhelming!

The 275 doesn't have a gimble bearing. However you most likely have U joints and PDS bearing needing attention. Especially if the bellows are bad. If the bellows are bad, the u- joints are probably toast, and your upper input shaft seal is probably not lo,g for the world

You can download manuals from VP. http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopent...lication_search/Pages/publication_search.aspx

Or you can view manuals from http://boatinfo.no/lib/library.html

Get a complete upper seal kit, and for your 275, you will need the spacer on the input shaft as well as some shims

Thank you for the insight. I have found the parts manuals but I am unsure exactly which parts I should order. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can find my boat has a AQ225E/275 setup.

Don't order anything until you know what you need. You need to pull the drive off first to determine what is bad

Yes sir, I understand that I need to find the issue. I also know that at a minimum there will be a number of parts that will need to be replaced as soon as I start working on it. Things like the u joints, bellows, bearings, seals, shims and o rings. When I'm in there I am also going to replace the oil pan gasket, rear main and filters. I do not want to pull this engine or drive again for a few years.

If I can get the basic parts ordered, I may not have too much down time.
