I recently bought a vector hydrostream with a 150hp mercury the problem is when i put it in forward or reverse it make alot of noise it goes away after a few seconds but it concerns me. what will cause this and what is needed to repair. Thanks
Welcome to iboats.

First, don't ease it into gear. Move the lever moderately fast for a good solid klunk instead of click click click klunk. If the motor is idling too high, that klunk can be pretty noisy and cause the boat to lurch everytime it's shifted. Idle should be around 750 to 850 in gear. Check your gearlube.
A question on that note when the boat is out of the water and i have it hooked up to the flush piece the engine seems to run at a high idle i work on cars for a living and i know that a car should idle that high i am going to install the tach tommorow to be sure but i did try to idle it down but i ran out of adjustment but in the water it idles down but it goes up and down every so often ITS NOT SURGING
Vector, listen to Willy. Gotta do your motor thing in the water. Totally agree with rpm's not being too high and THUNK INTO GEAR, don't ease it. BTDT

And remember idle rpm's are in gear with the engine in the water, not in neutral hooked up to the H2O tube on the trailer at home.

Mark
