I know these have been around for quite a while but recently the prices have dropped to the point they are affordable, like a 100 bux. I don' have one yet but there's one in my future. It appears to me that with this, you can not only tell if an engine is running hot or cold but by aiming it at individual cylinders or spark plugs tell if that cylinder is firing or not.

Do any of ya'll have one or maybe tried one? I'd be interested in hearing what ya'll think.

c/6

Hooty

Hello Hooty,

We have one in our shop and it is very handy. I have been very impressed with how accurate it is and how quickly it changes readings. Cylinder to cylinder comparisons and bank to bank thermastat operation is very easy to check. Bought it right through the local NAPA parts store on sale for $89.00 last year, brand is RayTech and accuracy is +/- 2%

Thanks MT,
Have you tried using it to determine which cylinders are hitting and which ones aren't?

c/6

Hooty

I have a Raytec Raynger ST, If you need to know the temp, they are hard to beat. Have used it to check temp on.

Disc brakes,
Spark plugs,
Cylinder head temp,
Alternator temp,
Diesel engine exhaust temp,
Wheel bearings,
AC duct temp in car and house,
The list goes on and on

Those little Ray-Tecs are nice...cant beat them for troubleshooting, and are pretty durable, too....aside from the occasional lockup from a high energy ignition, mine has been a joy to have...

Love the Raytech, but wish I had laid down the extra dough for the laser pinpoint feature.Great addition to your toolbox.
