I have a new Rinker 232. The swim deck non skid surface is terrible. Two people have slipped off the back of the boat recently. Luckily no injuries other than a cell phone. Looking to resurface to improve traction when wet. Current surface looks like a paint with sand or sum other granual material in it. The grains do seem very numerous to me. Any suggestions would be grearly appreciated
Thanks Steve

Re: non skid surface

I think that you have a few choices. Go to iboats mall (or other boating supply) and do a search for non skid.

- There are a number of non-skid tape products available (self adhesive type).
- There are textured vinyl floor covering like products that you apply with a glue.
- You can sand it down and paint on a new non-skid surface. You buy the paint of your choice and then add a non-skid additive to the paint. This option requires the most amount of prep.

FD thanks for the response. Cylops if you can't help don't bother to post. One person was my daughter and shes not CLUMSY A while back a man slipped on the swim deck of a 232 hit his head and drown in the Missippi. This has been an issue and has led to death and lawsuits. I noticed that there is a significant differance between the texture of the molded platform and the extended platform on my boat. I have a call into Randy Rinker to discuss this and hope they can make this right if not I will look for ways to fix this myself. As I feel this is a important safty issue.

Why would you want us to suggest a solution to a dangerous problem that has resulted in death and injury and law suits. Lets be more honest next time.

There are a number of products commonly used in industrial and commercial institutions. Check with the bigger industrial safety suppliers (yellow pages or Google) in your area or with commercial flooring suppliers. Many flooring products and treatments in use for areas around public pools, arenas, garages etc.

Do you want to be making modifications to a new boat relating to the safety of others ? In the age of the lawsuit happy society, isn't that asking for trouble ? I would put the responsibility back on the mfr where it belongs.

Thanks for the helpful responses. Dishonest? I think I'll just ignore your moronic post. I finally spoke with Randy Rinker and the dealer I bought the boat from. They agreed that to redo the extended swim platform under warranty. I posted this topic in the event that they would not fix the problem. I believe that as the boat owner it is my resonsiblity to insure the safety as much as possible of the people on my boat even if it means doing it myself

Try this website: www.flexiteek.no
It is non-skid, looks like real teak, cuts down on glare as well, can be glued on any reasonably flat surface and won't cost you a fortune.

When I see how gleaming white & slick so many US boats are, it makes me wonder why not more boat-owners look for deck surfaces like this one.

Re: non skid surface

Why would you make Rinker Boats look like a careless, non caring company whose boats have a life threatning defect, and not first have asked for their help? Instead, you put on a post that sounds like you were badly wronged by them. Don't post until they refuse to help. Why drag their name in the mud all over the boating world?

Ah more crap from the idiot. I did not bring up the legal issues that Rinker had until you made the clumsy remark. Are you off your medication LOL. I see people like you on these forums all the time. If you don't have anything helpful to post then get lost. Props to Rinker for addressing the situation. And Randy in paticular
happy Boating

KC thanks for bringing up this issue. I have two big slick areas on the back of the boat and was looking for a solution. The tape will work fine and I see that it comes in colors to boot!

Cyclops2 I understand where your coming from however biting your tongue is sometimes helpful. :D

Re: non skid surface

Okay my last post was way over the top for this I apologize. I took the clumsy comment very personnal since the incident involved my daughter. Also I have no desire to have an argument with you through this forum. Cyclops it was never my intention to drag Rinker through the mud. I actually love the boat and so far Rinker has resonded very well to any problems I've had and I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a boat. I was looking for alternatives to the gritty surface, which I still may change at a later date
