Alden isn't going barnacle diving again next season

I've been looking at the bottom paints available but there are a lot of choices.

I'm moored in the Haraseeket River (Casco Bay Maine) from April through Mid November. I've been looking at the Interlux products but have no personal experience with it.

Is there anyone here who knows the local growth conditions that can suggest something they like? My boat grows the wide kelp looking stuff at the waterline, and some fuzzy hair, barnacles and mussels underneath. I think I want an ablative paint so I can avoid major sanding when it's time to recoat.

(If anyone reading this has helped me with the engine issues, I have always cleaned the bottom thoroughly before giving performance #'s)

Hi,
As far as I am concerned there is nothing better then ablative paint for the boat bottom. Just the fact that it does not build up is enough of a reward to use it. I boat in the new york area and have found that the more you use the boat the cleaner the bottom remains. You still have to take a brush and clean the waterline area during the season especialy on the sunny side of the boat if it is in a slip. I have used interlux and also a paint called blue water that sells from new jersey and they all seems to perform o.k.
Good luck and enjoy your boat
Bill

Hey Bill,

I didn't see your reply till now. I've been leaning toward the ablative myself. As you mentioned, having it wash off will avoid that nasty build up I see on other peoples boats with the "hard" finish.

Thanks for your input.

Alden
