Ok now The Norton just expired on my computer and I have installed the free version of AVG. Will it stop viruses from coming onto my machine as did the Norton? Should I use the paid for AVG version? Shall I now dump the Norton from this machine? Any other questions I should have have axed? Thanks. Chief ;)

A few months ago,.. My Nortons was up for renewal,+ from advise I found here,.....
I Uninstalled the Nortons,+ Installed the AVG Free version.......

It's Much Less Intrusive, uses Less Resources,+ Runs Cleanly,......
It scans My incoming mail Quicker than the Nortons did,+ HAS Stopped a few Issues, Before they Happened......

I'm convinced it's a Great Program,...... Being Free Helps.....

Download the free version of ad-aware while you're at it. It will help get rid of a lot of the scumware on your computer that antivirus software doesn't look for.

go to www.download.com and in the search box type avg free, then just click the link that it provides.

Re: Norton AV

Hummm, when Norton System Works expired 4 months ago the kind folks here recommended AVG free edition, it's great and coexists with Norton using WIN XP-SP2. No conflict problems and I still get free updates of Norton System Works programs except of course for Anti-Virus. The only AVG problem is I can't use a CD for the rescue disk, any chance someone knows how.

I really like Mcafee...

AVG... Where do they make their money? Are they as good as the Multi-million $ folks at Mcafee / Norton?

Re: Norton AV

I've talked to a few people whose work computers use AVG. That could be their largest customer base. They also have a full blown version you can buy, but I want to get away from the automatic stuff that I can do myself. So far no problems, and things run a bit faster...time will tell. Chief

Re: Norton AV

It doesn't. A newer version may come out to download, but I've been running AVG free for a couple years now. It won't run out. Personally, if they got rid of the free version, I would buy the regular version.

Drocktor, I'm with you I would buy it i8n a minute I paid almost 80 bucks to upgrade my norton to Norton 2006 and it trashed my computer. I had a hand wringing before dumping it but it was the best move I made in years
