need to know if a nosecone on a 150 intruder on a 18' bassboat would increase any speed or fuel economy

You might notice it on the GPS numbers, but not otherwise.

Good luck. :)

It will not increase speed as such. If you are reaching blowout speed (should be in the upper 70's) now, a nosecone will let you get thru that and therefore go faster.

A nosecone with a low water pick up will allow you to raise the X dimension to reduce drag and still maintain good water pressure.

Installing a nosecone and not raising the motor may slow you down from increased drag.

Good luck!

Re: nosecones on outboards

thanks for your input , i wasn't aware that the real reason for a nosecone was hitting the upper 70's to prevent blowout. i'm only in the mid 60's and thouht the nosecone was just to cut thru the water better . i had seen one type that you install on your original lower unit and was looking for some cheap speed .i think i do need to raise the motor up a little , it won'ts to walk some at full trim and wide open which is around 5600 rpm .

Sounds like you have a good base line. Whats your water pressure? Do you have a jack plate now? Have you tried raising the motor any?

Good luck!

the jackplate looks like it is maxed out as far as height goes but i got another one a couple of years ago and been planing on putting it on. my pressure i believe is around 15 at wide open.
