Not Enough power ?

Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct spot to post this question, if not please delete or move it.

I have a 1979 17" renken boat this I do not think is overly heavy. It has a 1979 70 HP Johnson with a 3 blade 17 pt prop. I do not have a tach but it does not seem to over rev or under rev and moves along pretty good in the water.

Not for my problem. This weekend I tried to pull my brother on Skis it would not pull him up for nothing ! I only had myself ( 175 lbs ) a spotter ( 120 lbs ) and my brother goes about 200 lbs.

Is this normal, would a different prop make a difference?

Please let me know
Thanks in advance

he either needs to use two skis, or practice more.

Re: Not Enough power ?

He was using 2 skis but has not skied in a long time.

This rig should be able to get him out of the water and pull him?

Would something like seafoam help with more horsepower ?

I am just concerned that my motor sucks :(

What altitude was the lake? High lakes and carbs don't mix well.

In order to make a useful suggestion we'll need to get a little info. The most important thing is we need to find out what rpm the motor turns now. It's not unusual to use one prop for normal running and something else to ski with. By your description the motor is probably turning on the low side of the rpm range.

Re: Not Enough power ?

SeaFoam is not a power booster. It is a fuel system treatment to reduce carbon build-up and to prevent the fuel from going bad during periods of storage. One might ask if the engine has had a tune up recently and is making full power. Throttle opening the carbs fully? Boat full of water soaked foam? Lots of extra and heavy stuff in the boat?.
