Lately down our way it hasn't been the best weather for fishing. I've had the boat ready and packed for a trip but it just won't let up enough to go out!
Today my son and I went to Maramarua Golf Club and we had a great day. We walked about 5km and I guess you could add a couple more for me with all the zig zaging I did. Upset my son by getting 91 against his 98.
Tomorrow I will look skyward for the Gods to bless my boating efforts.
This golf game is good and costs about the same. You never know..........
Ross

Re: Not fishing!

Got out on Tuesday and made the Arabs rich by burning up $70.00 worth of gas plying the oceans of the BOP. Getting into some baby snapper at last so maybe things will pick up with the warmer currents bringing the snapper back. Rigged up with smaller Tarakihi flashers but havn't got those guys wired yet. Did find an awsome reef systyem off Pukahina beach by searching the seafloor, got it down on GPS so look out fish we will be back. The boats running well for a change did a trip with the kids to lake Rotoiti and its full of trout on the fishfinder. How do you get them on the boat? leagaly.

We've been getting pounded pretty good here as well.

Been alot of tropical systems lurking around lately....now we've got us a bonified hurricane comming over from cuba....I've been through so many of them now I'm a little hard to get worked up over the stupid things....don't mind the rain....but it can keep the wind to itself.

Wetwood.

Re: Not fishing!

Yea-buddy..About sick-o-summer myself!!!
I simply cannot wait till the skeeters lay down, the rain quits, and the fronts start to move thru.Florida sure bites durring the summer.
I am a Florida cracker, but never have adjusted to the Summer climate.(Go figure).

But the Winters here are why so many folks come here. Some come, like it,buy a home without experiancing a Summer, and sell it the foollowing Winter to another snowbird :D
But we don't have long to wait now.Today is the first day of Fall. And I am ready.

The weather's been kind to us down here at my favourite spot in Whangamata...at last. I've been catching the early morning tide at 7am... best time of the day. The water's as smooth as glass.... (It's the kids' school holidays, so thought we'd take some R&R ;) ) The fishing's been good too.

Ross - ever boated down here?

Re: Not fishing!

Yes Kiwi, we went out on a commercial boat once on a windy day and caught our fair share of snapper, terikihi, and trevally.
We stayed at a home owned by the friend of a friend. The fishing was awesome, the accomodation great, I swum in the harbour.
The food at the boat club was second to none. It was a great two day break, I hope to do it again soon!

I'm still not back fishing yet, but now it's not the weather stopping me, it's the family. Some of our children and my grandaughter are off to the mountains and will be snowboarding. I get to be the transporter as I own the 4x4 and know some private spots where we can snowboard behind the 4x4 on the waterski setup! I'll post a photo when the trip is over.
Ross

Re: Not fishing!

Hey Ross that sounds like great fun! I look forward to seeing the photos.

It's a great boat club here and those fishing cruises are supposed to visit some amazing fishing spots...as you obviously did. I must try that sometime - so far I've only been out in my own boat.

Yes, this is that crazy time of year when some of us are boating and others are snowboarding... :D ...and when cricket and rugby overlap....

Roll on summer time.... ;)

Re: Not fishing!

Well,Summer does bite here, that's no exageration,

Right now, the State of Florida is surounded by huricanes tropical storms and depressions. We have five systems they are watching right now,in various stages of waxing and waining.
Texas,Louisianna, Goergia,Mexico,Cuba,Haiti,Bahamas, and a few other islands are also under the threat of these systems.
So for the past two weeks, the weather gurus have saw fit to issue "small craft warnings", which in layman's terms means "No fishing from your boat,if you value your life".
I sometimes eat lunch at the Centenial Boat Ramp on the River..It is relaxing, pretty, and at times, offers comic relief, watching my bretheren of the sea throw caution to the wind, and launch thier small craft.
Today was really funny. I kept choking on my store-bought foccasia, and had to mop-up the coffee I spit all over the windshield.
I try not to let them see me laughing,as I know how it feels to be there, when I do something dumb, like launching into a headwind, grinding the transducer off the transom when I go to get the trailer.

But anyhoo, come on, Autumn! 12Footer's fuel tanks are sour!!

Amen to that 12footer,

Flordia sucks in the summer.

Between the hours of 7:00am and 8:00pm you are wet be it from rain or sweat. between the hours of 8:01pm and 6:59am you had better put on your best suit of armor because its Skeeter Time (not that they are'nt out all the time anyway).

The inshore fish do funny things in the heat of summer for the most part makeing things tough but not impossible.

You have to be a man to fish FL. in the summer cause it sure is'nt for wimps.

Things are about to change though....Yippy-yaho-ki-a!

Huh...Thats odd...before I put the "!" with the a on the last sentance it bleeped it out. Must be a fowl vowl (he,he,he).

Egarwood.

Re: Not fishing!

What can I say, we came back from the mountain and the ****** boats are about to start racing in the Waitemata Harbour. To top that off the World Rally is about t start here in Auckland. Is there no peace?
Seriously, I love the Americas Cup racing but the fishing changes to early morning and forget about the day fish altogeather. As for the rally, I can't get enough of it. Look for it on the TV guys and guyesses and you'll see a country view of En Zed.
As promised heres a couple of photos of the mountains. The snow was much higher than we expected but we managed to have a play anyway so here goes -
It's an interesting comment - there's a friend of mine that reckons the NASA boys may have been filming over here a few years ago.
I know the 'Lord of the Ring' was partially filmed here, I've been taken to one a couple of the spots.
Ross
