Not getting gas

Hi, I have a 70hp Mariner about 1983, In order to get gas to the motor I have to unplug the fuel line from the motor and put a screwdriver in to allow the gas to come out when I pump the suction ball. Then when I plug it back into the motor it will run. Thinking something in carb or such not allowing air to exit the fuel line to allow the gas to the motor. I could pump that ball 70 times and it won't allow the gas to the motor unless I disconnect it. Any Idea what to look for? Thanks for your help

Sounds like a stuck float. Run it dry at the end of the day.

Thanks for the replies, Yes I bought a new pump bulb and it has the arrow toward the engine. If I put the screwdriver in the motor end of the line it works fine. As if it can't force the air out of the line and let the gas go to motor.

Re: Not getting gas

Any air in the line would simply be forced through the fuel pump, then into the carburetors and out the carburetor vent.-------Obviously there is a blockage somewhere on the motor and that needs to be checked out.-----Start by removing the hose going into the carburetors.-Then squeeze the bulb and see what happens.

Well, if you have a spare tank with a line and fitting, I would definitely try it or get a new fitting.
