By no means is this the first stupid thing. I have a short list of common errors:
1. Leaving the boat and trailor key at home and having to drive back to get it
2. THINKING I left the keys at home, driving back to get them and finding it in the boat later
3. Leaving the keys on the tongue of the trailor and loosing them enroute.
But this weekend was different. I was helping my Dad, (helping Dad means I am doing the whole job) wire new speakers in his cabin cruiser. I was in the cabin, door shut, snaking speaker wire through the bulkhead and decided to exit the cabin to get something. dad had decided to be helpful and open the hatch to the engine compartment so I could access the other side of the bulkhead. The engine compartment hatch is just aft of the cabin door.
I sprang out the cabin door and straight into the engine compartment, upset a tool box sending hundreds of sockets and such into the bilge, caught myself by my elbows (ouch) and wedged one leg between the starboard engine exhaust (moderatley hot) and some supports.
There I was, confused and bruised and burned wondering what happened. I had an image of a cartoon character running off the cliff and suspended in midair until he realizes where he was....
Any way I regained my dignity and took a quick physical inventory, finished the job and made a mental note to look before I leap.
The rest of the weekend I havn't felt myself, a little stiffer than normal and not as energetic but Im sure I will be fine
