I have a 1958 35 super seahorse that I replaced the impeller and thermostat on. The impeller is going the right direction but for some reason it is not pumping water. Any ideas on what to look for it was pumping water before I changed it.

That motor does not have a telltale outlet. After the thermostat opens,it should spit out the opening on the top of the midsection. The spit should be about 140*F. Most of the water is discharged behind the prop.

Where were you looking to see if the motor is pumping water?

Make sure the "key" to drive the impeller is in place. Make sure the water tube is inserted in the grommet on the pump housing.

I ran it for about 5 minutes and I was looking for the Mist in the midsection and was getting very very very little. So I took off the cowling and the motor was hot. I then remove the thermostat and there was no water in there are just a little steam.

If the motor was not running water would have drained out the block !----What happens when you start the motor with that thermostat cover off ?

Yes, try that and if no water comes out, drop the lower unit and hook up a garden hose and see if water comes up to the thermostat housing. If not, there is a blockage. If water comes up, the problem is with the water pump.

Drop the lower unit if it pumped before it should pump now. You probably missed the tube just realign everything.
