Have a 1987 mariner marathon 135 v-6
Have recently changed sparkplugs. Issue is this with 1 person boat reaches (albeit not as quickly as normal) max rpm range. With about 2 or 3 people on board boat will only get to around 4500 rpm. Admitedly gas is around 3 seasons old (plan on draining tank, changing fuel filter, water seperator etc)
What can I use as an additive to clean out carbs etc. Compression is good and consistent on all cylinders. Also how do you go about bypassing automatic oiler system.

pjhmth, Don't turn it another RPM. Three seasons old! Forget the additive at this point.Have an experienced person take the carbs. down and cleaned in chemical and reassembled. Put in a fresh set of plugs and by all means clean the fuel system throughly.Purge the fuel lines and fuel pump before connecting fuel line to newly cleaned carbs. To de-activate the oil injection system, the oil inj. pump must be removed so that the pump drive can be discarded from the power head, replace pump, and cap inlet and outlet, plug pulse feed to resovior and oil line to oil pump. Then, warning module must be taken out of service. If it sounds a bit complicated, it's because it is to a beginner. P.S...Don't forget to add oil to fuel tank at a 50:1 mix. Use fuel stabilizer if you plan to lay up over 6 months. (Sta-Bil). Good luck...

Add 20 gallons to the tank at the local station, forget to add oil, get towed back to the dock with a stuck motor, ruined weekend, rebuild the motor cause you can't SEE the fuel!
