Well, I have read over and over that these 50 hp outboards are not really up to par with thier ratings. So...after searching on here and seeing a mention about dremel tooling another outboard while the pistons were out, could I do this to help it get to the real 50?

Or is there anthing else i would do to get some more real power out of it? Props diealed in good, rpms are right on...I just want this thing to push what it says it does...Not 30hp like some have said it really does! Any suggestions?

BTW, the outboards a 1991 force 50hp..well wants to be anyway...

1991 models were rated at the prop.
All outboards are to be within 10% of rated hp when they leave the factory. So it could have been 45 hp when new. It may have lost additional hp over the years due to wear, loss of compression, poor tuning, inefficient prop design, etc.

Basically, you have what you have. You could spend 10 hours working it up a bit, to gain 2-4 hp, but why bother.

huh...ok...From what I had read they were way over rated. Kinda thinking that your right though. 2-4 hp is not really worth it. Oh well...thanks man!

From my experience that comes from merc owners that dont like force. Truth is that a 125 force will spin the same size prop at the same speed as a 115 merc. That is why you here that alot. Its not that it doesnt have more power, its just that it doesnt have enough more to move up in prop size.
Heck, on my boat the diference between my 1991 90hp force and 93' merc 115 was 1mph. Now who has the weak motor!
